Extension of site visits to include SFE systems

In 2018, the site visits carried out in shops for household WEEE and lamps were extended to include small fire extinguishers. The purpose of these visits conducted by recycling ambassadors throughout France was to assist collection points in implementing collection systems for consumers.

For small fire extinguishers, these site visits, initiated in 2018, allowed Norauto shops and hardware stores to be fitted with Extinboxes, whilst providing them with advice on good in-store collection of small fire extinguishers. Communication kits were also deployed. These visits are now integrated into a global system for actions locally and will be continued and extended in 2019.

Un guide pratique pour tout savoir sur le recyclage des PAE

A practical guide for those with small fire extinguishers was created in 2018 in order to help in the proper disposal of used small fire extinguishers. This guide concisely and clearly describes the equipment concerned by the sector, the different collection solutions, the traceability systems, the types of existing containers and collection methods. This guide can be downloaded here.

Developing the collection network and building producer loyalty

In 2018 ESR worked with several professional partner organisations. The Fédération Française des métiers de l’Incendie (FFMI) (French Federation of Fire Fighting Activities) is assisting ESR with the development of a collection and recycling system for small fire extinguishers.

ESR also met with the chambre syndicale des entreprises d’équipement électrique (CSEEE) (Chamber of the Electrical Equipment Companies Trade Union Chamber) for Paris and the Parisian region in order to review our partnership After this meeting, the spotlight was again on the small fire extinguisher sector via their communication activities (internet site, newsletter, etc.) ESR was also invited to present its collection solutions at a “sector workshop” with installers/fitters on 20 February 2018 as well as being invited to speak at a conference during the “Growth and Technologies” meeting held on 5 June 2018.

In 2018 ESR’s participation in professional trade fairs took place in partnership with processional organisations involved in developing the sector. The aim at each event was two-fold: continue to develop the small fire extinguisher network whilst boosting relations with ESR and equipment manufacturers concerned by this still-developing sector. ESR was present at:

  • Uship, in January in Lorient, to reach out directly to general public retailers and hardware stores.
  • Preventica Lyon, from 29 to 31 May, to address both those having and producing small fire extinguishers.
  • Preventica Bordeaux, from 2 to 4 October, to meet with those having and producing small fire extinguishers.
  • Expo Protection, from 6 to 9 November in Paris, to reach out to those having and producing small fire extinguishers.

Furthermore, ESR carried out a telephone campaign contacting 1,801 prospective installers/fitters to boost its collection network. Amongst them, 166 potential new collection points should enter the existing network.
